Woo-Woo Who?

I’m weird. If you know me at all, this isn’t exactly news to you. I’m filled to the gills with contradictions—an introvert who is completely comfortable approaching strangers and having great conversations with them, deep faith combined with an almost rabid disdain for religion, taste in music than runs the whole gamut, and a pragmatic exterior that plays remarkably well with my utterly woo-woo interior. It’s a little busy in here.

Woo-woo feels very normal to me. I mean, having faith in anything you can’t see, hear, feel, taste, or smell is a dazzlingly woo-woo concept, am I right? I’m not a believer in a supposedly all-good and all-powerful guy-in-the-sky who has a long list of no-can-do things, keeps a constant eye out for misdeeds, and then tallies them before deciding one’s eternal fate. But I do believe in the collective—that we have the power to create heaven and hell. That though I’m currently walking around in this vessel of flesh and curls, it’s just temporary housing. Me, the real me, is eternal. And I believe in love. I’m a huge believer in the power of love. It can create miracles and is, in my view, at the core of everything of value.

I also believe we are all constantly manifesting, whether we do so purposefully or as result of our random but repeated thoughts (and if so, dude, train your brain to think with purpose!). I believe in energy medicine and that thoughts are things that impact not only our minds (and our futures, as mentioned above), but also our physical health. Happiness is healthy. Choose it. I believe anything and everything is possible, and that since whenever we are thinking about the future, be it five minutes or five decades from now, we are making up a story. So why not make up a great one with a happy ending?

So you’d think I’d be all about this week’s GBE topic, “What is your power animal?” Surprisingly, not even a teensy bit. There are a few animals I have always felt an affinity with. Does that count? I have a thing for robins, squirrels, Holstein cows, and gorillas. So I’m gonna look up the symbolism of those four animals with the power animal/spirit animal folks and see what they say. Here we go!

Squirrels: If you have a squirrel spirit animal, you are resourceful, flexible, and quick-witted. Planning comes naturally to you. You like putting away nuts for the winter like a squirrel. But you know how to enjoy the moment too.

The squirrel spirit animal is also associated with playfulness and lightheartedness. You enjoy life and don’t take things too seriously. Squirrel types also tend to be fun-loving and carefree. Finally, when you have squirrel energy, you’re quick to forgive and forget. *

Robins: If the robin is your totem animal, you are intuitive and a visionary of sorts, often picturing places and situations in advance of them actually coming to fruition. People who know this about you and have seen you in action will often seek your counsel regarding their own life situations and they look to you as some sort of fountain of wisdom. However, despite having a keen eye for future events, you are also a model of someone who lives in the moment and doesn’t hold onto grudges. **

Cows: The cow spirit animal is strongly associated with nurturing and motherhood. As a provider of milk and nourishment, the cow represents care, love, and protection. By embodying the nurturing qualities of the cow spirit animal, we can learn to care for ourselves and others with kindness and compassion.

Cows are also symbols of abundance and prosperity. In many cultures, they represent wealth, fertility, and sustenance. The cow spirit animal encourages us to cultivate an attitude of gratitude and to recognize the abundance that surrounds us in our everyday lives.

The cow spirit animal embodies gentleness and peacefulness. Despite their size and strength, cows are typically calm and gentle creatures. By embracing the cow’s peaceful nature, we can learn to approach life with grace, patience, and tranquility. ***

Gorillas: People with Gorilla as a Totem Animal are influential leaders. Gorillas wield their power with wisdom. A Gorilla Person understands that listening and consistency are far more effective than aggressive commands, having little to no patience for despots. If Gorilla is your Birth Totem, you tackle life in a sensible, steady manner. You are charming, respected, and you remain loyal to people you choose as friends. People find you dependable because you keep your promises. Your Gorilla Medicine gives you the ability to encourage a community to pull together for important causes and achieve success. You are an active spirit.

While normally peace-loving, woe to those who would try to take what you see as yours by hard work or merit; that’s when the Gorilla Warrior comes out to defend what you value. Initially, you will confront the person or situation with powerful discussions where you stand your ground without compromise. If that doesn’t work, like your Gorilla Totem, you become fierce.

Some people find you intimidating, but you’re an old softie. You seek other kindhearted, honest, and trustworthy souls. You also can’t help but want to help those who are weak, scared, or feeling lost. Gorilla is a nurturer at heart and has plenty of compassion to spread around. ****

Well, okay. And yeah, there really is a whole lot of me in all of those. I might have just expanded my woo-wooness (not a real word).

    1. Unlike you, who found a quiz to help you hone in on your power animal, I just went with animals I have always felt a connection with. When in doubt, wing it! 🙂

  1. I can absolutely see that you would have gorilla as a possible contender. The territorial protector with a heart of gold. 😉

  2. I love the way you write! ❤ I've always said my spirit animal is a fox. Loved them since I was a child and I've seen them a couple times at random moments in my life. I like the attributes associated with them as well.

'Having the fox as your spirit animal encourages you to exercise discernment, trust your intuition and maintain a keen sense of adaptability. It's an invitation to embrace change and learn to navigate transitional periods with grace and courage.'
